If you were planning to try to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, you may actually hold some hope of decent gameplay.

During a livestream on NicoNico Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida tested the game’s benchmark on one of Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablets and achieved a pretty decent score of 2570 on medium settings and 1280×720 resolution. That’s most definitely a playable score.

To provide a term of comparison my personal laptop with Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Core i3 M350, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 and 4 GB of RAM got a quite lame score of 1698 on the same settings, and the game is still playable on it.

Of course the Microsoft Surface Pro is no gaming PC, my actual gaming rig goes over 7000 with no sweat, but if you want to play some on the go and you have one of Microsoft’s new tablets, now you know you can.
